MEDA HS: Relative humidity sensor for the Mars 2020 Perseverance rover
نویسندگان
چکیده
The Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) provides a relative humidity measurement sensor (HS) for NASA's Mars 2020 rover. is part of the Environmental Dynamic Analyzer (MEDA), suite environmental sensors provided by Spain's Centro de Astrobiología. main scientific goal to measure Martian atmosphere near surface and complement previous mission atmospheric measurements better understanding conditions hydrological cycle. Relative has been measured from previously Phoenix Curiosity. Compared on board Curiosity, MEDA HS based new version polymeric capacitive heads developed Vaisala. Calibration devices challenging methods have HS. test campaigns performed at FMI, University Michigan German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Berlin achieve best possible calibration. accuracy uncertainty calibration also analysed detail with VTT Technical Research Centre Finland. Assessment performance after landing confirms that successful, delivering high quality data science community.

Precision Instrument Targeting via Image Registration for the Mars 2020 Rover
A key component of Mars exploration is the operation of robotic instruments on the surface, such as those on board the Mars Exploration Rovers, the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL), and the planned Mars 2020 Rover. As the instruments carried by these rovers have become more advanced, the area targeted by some instruments becomes smaller, revealing more fine-grained details about the geology and ch...
متن کاملMars Science Laboratory relative humidity observations: Initial results
The Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) made a successful landing at Gale crater early August 2012. MSL has an environmental instrument package called the Rover Environmental Monitoring Station (REMS) as a part of its scientific payload. REMS comprises instrumentation for the observation of atmospheric pressure, temperature of the air, ground temperature, wind speed and direction, relative humidity (...
متن کاملMotion Planning for Mars Rover
This paper presents an global-optimal motion planner for Mars Rover. It accounts for traversability and dynamic stability due to vehicle dynamics and terrain topography. A given path is traversable if along it the vehicle is statically stable. The vehicle is dynamically stable if its velocity does not exceed the velocity limit, determined from tip-over, sliding, and contact constraints. The cos...
متن کاملMars rover navigation results using sun sensor heading determination
Upcoming missions to the surface of Mars will use mobile robots to traverse long distances from the landing site. To prepare for these missions, the prototype rover, Rocky 7, has been tested in desert field trials conducted with a team of planetary scientists. While several new capabilities have been demonstrated, foremost among these was sun-sensor based traversal of natural terrain totaling a...
متن کاملAutonomous Mars Rover Simulation
This report documents the development and evaluation of the “Autonomous Mars Rover Simulation” project. The goal of the project was to produce a simulation of a closed Martian environment in which rovers perform a co-ordinated science gathering mission. The simulated world contains features such as rocks and patches of differing terrain. High-level objectives are specified detailing science dat...
